chicken and noodles recipe

This recipe strikes the perfect balance between homemade goodness and practical convenience. The rich, creamy broth hugs each noodle while tender chicken pieces add satisfying protein. It’s the kind of meal that makes everyone think you’ve been cooking all day, when really you’ve been helping with homework, answering emails, or maybe sneaking in a few minutes of your favorite show.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
  • 1 (26 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups diced, cooked chicken breast meat
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 (9 ounce) packages frozen egg noodles

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the chicken broth, condensed cream of chicken soup, and condensed cream of mushroom soup. Stir until smooth.
  2. Add the diced chicken to the soup mixture.
  3. Sprinkle in the onion powder, seasoning salt, and garlic powder, giving everything a good stir to combine.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. You’ll notice it starting to thicken slightly.
  5. Once boiling, add the frozen egg noodles directly to the pot. No need to thaw them first!
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Keep an eye on the consistency – the noodles will plump up and the sauce will thicken as it simmers.
  8. When the noodles are tender and the sauce has reached your preferred thickness, it’s ready to serve!

Notes

  • Time-Saving Shortcut: Use rotisserie chicken from the grocery store! I grab one on my way home and can have dinner on the table even faster.
  • Make It Your Own: This chicken and noodles recipe is super flexible. Toss in some frozen peas and carrots during the last 5 minutes of cooking for extra color and nutrients.
  • Consistency Control: Like it thicker? Let it simmer a bit longer. Prefer more broth? Add an extra half cup of chicken broth.
  • Leftover Magic: This actually tastes even better the next day once all the flavors have had time to get cozy with each other. The noodles might soak up more liquid, so you may want to add a splash of broth when reheating.
